ASLA Assists Trail Planning

On Saturday, February 9th, two California chapters of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) hosted a day-long design workshop focusing on a variety of design challenges on the Great Shasta Rail Trail.  Members of the Core Team, National Park Service Rivers, Trails, and Conservation program, and ten ASLA volunteers spent the first part of the day learning about the trail’s geography and history, adjacent communities, and interpretative themes.  They then divided into two groups to develop ideas for trail identity and image and trailhead site planning. The Core Team reviewed their work during the day and helped refine the ideas.   ASLA members will “finish” and organize the sketches, which will be part of the Trail Concept Plan and other outreach materials.
