TRAIL CONDITIONS UPDATE

Siskiyou County Pilgrim to Edson:  Our intrepid head of engineering inspected the trail on July 29th and found that extremely dangerous conditions prevail.  As hot weather continues the glaciers on Mount Shasta are melting and the resulting heavy water flow picks up and releases debris into the creeks.  Culverts could become plugged, causing the water along the trail to deepen and eventually flood the trail.  Mud Creek bridge could suddenly be lost.  Unpredictable heavily silted water is extremely perilous.  PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THE AREA.  IT IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR VEHICLES, PEOPLE, BICYCLES.

Shasta County, Cayton (Clark Creek Road North):  Jerry also discovered that there was a fire on July 11, apparently started at the tool shack at Cayton Trailhead.  The shack (on trail property) was completely destroyed, with about two acres of the nearby forest burned.  Some damage was done to the trail by fire suppression heavy vehicles, so head’s up if you are riding or hiking in this area.

Conditions in the woods are at abnormally dry levels because of the drought, high temperatures, and low humidity.  Be careful out there.
